Losing my marbles (to a self-playing guitar)
Sound installation and performance in Helsinki, June 2017.
Losing my marbles (to a self-playing guitar) was a collaboration between me and Antti Kainulainen as a part of the workshop Reinventing the musical instrument led by Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki.
The sound installation was based on an amplified electric guitar that could play on its own. The setup was run by rotating motors that played marbles back and forth on the guitar strings with a sliding sound. Two of the motors was also connected to wires hanging from a metal grid in the ceiling. The movement of these motors transferred to the wires which created a constant rattling background noise.
At the presentation of the course me and Antti had a performance where we during 6 minutes increased the volume of the amplifier to a point when the only audible sound was the feedback. At the end of the performance we turned the switch off and left the stage.
